How to Discover New Podcasts (And New Interview Guests)

I love finding new podcasts, not only because I’m always on the lookout for successful entrepreneurs and people with amazing stories for my client’s podcasts at Interview Connections, but as a podcast junkie myself, I just love hearing from NEW people!

There are over 500,000 podcasts on iTunes but it seems like unless I really search out new shows, I’m only hearing about a small fraction of those podcasts! […]

You Don’t Need a Big List or a Big Audience to be Successful

I had a meeting with one of my long time clients yesterday where we talked about her podcast, the guests she wants to book and in general, how everything’s going! Her first reaction was “Eh, it’s okay, I wish it was better.”

I asked, “Well, why do you say that?”

She said she wishes her download numbers were bigger and that she can’t quite get over the hump of a couple hundred downloads an episode.

Now, as an aside, people ask me all the time about how big their audience ‘should’ be and what is considered to be ‘good’ in terms of download numbers.

My answer is always the same: It depends. […]

You’re Not Too Late to Start a Podcast

I have to be honest, I get a little ticked off when I hear podcast industry leaders telling people they’re too late to podcasting; that if they haven’t started one yet, there’s no way they’re going to stand out enough to be successful.

I think that’s a big load of crap!

Listen, the bottom line is, there is an incredibly small percentage of listeners who are podcast enthusiasts and are constantly in iTunes looking at the rankings, and listening to multiple shows that are similar in style. […]

Press Releases vs. One Sheets (What a Podcaster Wants)

When you think of a press release, what comes to mind?

I think about a document that says: “This is who I am, this is my latest book, this is something I want to promote and get a lot of press for.”

Now, if you’re trying to get a ton of press then a press release is the right thing to have!

But if you want to get interviewed on podcasts, I discourage you from sending podcasters a press release because quite frankly, it does not send the right message. Notice that: “This is who I am, this is my latest book, this is something I want to promote and get a lot of press for” is all “I” language where it’s all about what you want. You don’t want to talk about what you want when you are trying to get booked for podcast interviews. You want to talk about what the audience will gain from hearing your interview. […]

Stop Idolizing Internet Celebrities

In our world of online entrepreneurship, Internet marketing and podcasting, there are a lot of ‘celebrities.’ We go to conferences and those with high download numbers on their podcast and big email lists have people who are afraid to walk up to them and get star struck when they shake their hand. My tip for you, especially if you are working to build your podcast and your brand is to stop idolizing Internet celebrities and people who are more successful than you are.

Why? As soon as you place these people up on a pedestal, you automatically place yourself below them. […]

Pitching a Podcaster

If you’re reading this blog, you are probably interested in getting interviewed on podcasts as a guest expert. But do you know how to effectively pitch a podcaster? It is a lot different from pitching a media outlet! Instead of presenting your topic to a company, you’re essentially pitching yourself as someone that host will want to spend 30 minutes with on Skype.

Because of that major difference, your pitch needs to be personalized. Here are some tips on how to effectively pitch a podcaster. […]

The Power of Testimonials

As you’re building your business, growing your podcast audience, or your web tv presence, testimonials are something you need to be getting and using in your marketing and on your website.

Most clients will not hand them to you on a silver plater; you have to ask for them. The best time to ask a client for a testimonial is after they give you a compliment or tell you how happy they are with you and your services. […]
