When to Adopt a New Marketing Platform

This year’s Social Media Marketing World got a lot of people excited about new marketing platforms – Snapchat, Periscope, Facebook Live, etc. Everywhere you looked among the 3,000+ marketers, podcasters and entrepreneurs, phones were out and cameras were rolling. But as fun and exhilarating as it was to try out these new platforms, a very important question must be asked by every entrepreneur, whether they were at SMMW or not: “Is it right for me to adopt a new platform right now?”

I’m not a big fan of ‘yes or no’ answers. The answer is almost always, it depends! Gary Vaynerchuk appears to be obsessed with Snapchat. He’s not. He loves attention, and attention right now happens to be on Snapchat. But you are likely not Gary Vee with an audience his size vying for your attention. You are a bootstrapped entrepreneur growing your audience like I am. It takes a lot of effort to get new viewers and listeners on your content. It takes time. […]

Our world is a noisy place. When you are looking for guidance, whether in your personal or professional life, how can you sort through all the hype and get the honest, expert advice you need? The Ratings Revolution

“If you could do me a favor, leave a rating and review for my podcast on iTunes!” A very reasonable request from almost every podcaster out there. Unfortunately, when a host makes this request, there are some who will want to oblige by quickly jumping onto iTunes, giving 5 stars, and leaving a comment like “Love this show! You nailed it!” The kicker is, they have never even listened to an episode!

So, what we, as podcast consumers are left with are falsely inflated stats, disingenuous reviews, and no trusted forum for real podcast ratings. Friends, I think it’s high time for a ratings revolution…and the revolution starts with YOU. […]

Why You Need a One Sheet

Imagine going to the grocery store to buy a box of cereal. Instead of the colorful, descriptive boxes lining the shelves, all you find are plain brown boxes with price tags and a little note saying “The box of cereal is perfect for you!” It would be pretty hard to figure out which box was actually the one you wanted, right?

The same is true when you are pitching yourself as a guest expert without a one sheet. How is a host supposed to say YES without getting a good picture of who you are? A one sheet does just that. Its a one-page document that describes you as the great guest you are! It showcases your expertise in a concise and attractive way to let podcast hosts know who you are and what you have to offer their audience. If you’ve never seen a one sheet, here’s mine: […]

I’m Not Perfect & Neither Are You

I filmed this episode in a moment of not feeling perfect whatsoever! My day was thrown off by the snowstorm and at 1:30pm I still had not opened my email. Instead of putting make up on, getting Nathan in front of the TV and pretending my day was sailing smoothly, I turned on the camera to bring you this very important lesson: I’m not perfect, and neither are you, and that is okay! […]

Stop Idolizing Internet Celebrities

In our world of online entrepreneurship, Internet marketing and podcasting, there are a lot of ‘celebrities.’ We go to conferences and those with high download numbers on their podcast and big email lists have people who are afraid to walk up to them and get star struck when they shake their hand. My tip for you, especially if you are working to build your podcast and your brand is to stop idolizing Internet celebrities and people who are more successful than you are.

Why? As soon as you place these people up on a pedestal, you automatically place yourself below them. […]

The Power of Testimonials

As you’re building your business, growing your podcast audience, or your web tv presence, testimonials are something you need to be getting and using in your marketing and on your website.

Most clients will not hand them to you on a silver plater; you have to ask for them. The best time to ask a client for a testimonial is after they give you a compliment or tell you how happy they are with you and your services. […]

Entrepreneurs: Is it Okay to Work on ‘Vacation?’

There is no shortage of lifestyle entrepreneurs online telling you that you should be able to leave your business when on vacation; yet there are lots of entrepreneurs who cannot fathom the possibility of being offline for more than a few days!
